'Inspirational Filmmaker Award' from the Watsonville Film Festival

My 3 short films, 'Ahco on the Road', 'Hansel + Gretel' & 'Noir' were screened at the historic Fox theatre at the 5th Watsonville Film Festival on Oct. 1 & 2.

The festival also awarded me an 'Inspirational Filmmaker Award'
I am very grateful and honored by this award...

Athens International Film + Video Festival

My recent short film, 'Deep in the Woods' has been selected in competition at the 43rd Athens International Film + Video Festival (Athens, Ohio), one of Academy Award Qualifying festivals.
The film is scheduled to be screened on Apr. 8th, in the Experimental program, 'Alternative Texture'.

The View - A collection of experimental films

Hansel + Gretel won the Best Animated Short Award

Hansel + Gretel won the Best Animated Short Award at the 38th Big Muddy Film Festival.
I am very honored...

Hansel + Gretel won a very special award...

 'Hansel + Gretel' is the winner for the 2016 Hasbro Special Hospital Jury Award.

(Providence Children's Film Festival brought selections of short films from 2016 program to the Hasbro Children's Hospital. Then the children voted for their favorite film.

This is so unexpected, very memorable and special award, considering the film's abstraction in visual and symbolism...

Monarch Film Festival screening with the crew

My short films, 'Hansel + Gretel' and 'Noir' were screened in the Narrative Shorts category at the Monarch Film Festival (Pacific Grove, California) on Dec. 10 & 11.

It was wonderful to have my crew, Lanier Sammons- composer for both films, and Nicholas Goodman- animator/sound designer for 'Noir', at the screening.

A few colleagues from school where I teach, suggested to do a film jam challenge of making a 2min. film (over the thanksgiving break) with a theme of 'Circle'.

Yellowshed work presentation at CSU Monterey Bay

On October 26th, as a part of Monday night screening series at CSU Monterey Bay (where I teach), I presented selected work of Yellowshed from the last 20 years.

Bird character design for my next film, 'Noir'

Here are sketches of a wooden bird design for a new film: a story about a black bird.
The film will be made using drawn/painted and stop-motion techniques.
Release date is around... 2015 Spring.

Children's Animation Workshop

I held a puppet-making & animation workshop for children at the Days & Nights Festival, organized by Phillip Glass on Sep. 27th. Here are my initial idea sketches & a few pics from the event. The workshop's theme was 'Art & Science', so we made a few cardboard spaceships for kids to interact with the animated images. Children at the workshop also made paper puppets and animate them to travel the space!

'Ahco on the Road' won an award for 'Best Short Narrative' in the Monarch Film Festival!

New film, 'Hansel & Gretel' preview...

New film is getting close to be complete.
It is an abstract visualization of Brothers Grimm's story 'Hansel & Gretel' that I worked with my students in Experimental Animation class.
I'm working on a rough edit, to hand it over to a music composer, Lanier Sammons.
The film will be released around mid-November.
